Zulu Radio was an independent radio station from the Dominican Republic founded by its CEO, Juan Carlos Garcia under the company Zulu Productions in 2009. It is now a vault that offers people an idea of what Zulu culture was like back then. It was the first Indie station in the Dominican Republic that promoted the musical culture of the “underground” world of local and international talents in the genres: Rock, Pop, Funk, HipHop, Dance, Lounge and Fusion.
Zulu Radio was committed to innovating the world of local technology by offering multiple ways for artists to promote themselves through live sessions and interviews while incorporating them with international talents with the intention of establishing a new musical-artistic consciousness.
Ours was music with diversity, but with criteria, far from popular impositions. We sought to introduce our listeners to new musical and cultural trends within the “indie” movement.
This movement began in the late 1970s, but was revived to represent an entire culture of people who describe themselves as anti-conformist and free-spirited. Within the Zulu Radio booth, we had the ability to produce live specials for bands or DJs, with audio and video transmission.
Apart from an online station, Zulu Radio was a “music social network” where you could make your own playlist with Zulu Radio’s music and share it with the world.
Zulu evolved to be a multi-medium communication. Establishing a 24/hour Channel on the Claro TV Grid known as Zulu Radio TV on Channel 68 of the Advanced and Standard Digital Plans.
Zulu Productions was a company that came to contain a branch of operational divisions that were part of a synchronized communication network. As networks there were the projects known as Zulu Radio, ZuluRadio TV and Zulu Radio Café.
The Zulu Radio Café branch was aimed at exposing the product and incorporating it into the culinary area. Zulu Radio Café was a Café/Restaurant and Open House located in the Colonial Zone, Calle Isabel La Católica # 7. Here you could enjoy the food and atmosphere of the Indie scene. Offering a menu of dishes and tapas personalized to the taste of those who know and experience Indie art and music while at the same time enjoying the musical and television atmosphere of Zulu Radio and Zulu Radio TV.
It was also equipped with a facility for live events related to the entertainment area where it offered live music shows, art exhibitions and stand up comedy.
We are currently offering the public a live broadcast and radio station site and occasionally uploading content that was produced in 2009 such as Live Sessions, tbt’s, ect with the intention of bringing back memories and also helping fight against the CoVid pandemic 19.
